Rugged & Collapsible Luxurious Windscreen
This is what I would call a luxurious windscreen. It is made of heavy gauge stamped sheet metal. It weighs twice as much as a basic homemade windscreen like I normally use, but the extra bulk comes with substantial benefit. This thing stays put!! No worries about the windscreen being blown away in strong wind or tipping over if you bump it with your pot. The prongs that extend from each end stake it into the ground to prevent such mishaps. The hinges are reasonably strong piano style and the storage case is rigid plastic with a shock cord "keeper" to keep the windscreen from sliding out. Overkill? Maybe for some trips, but in foul weather I will be glad to have it! A good windscreen can save your bacon... literally.

Nice job on delivery! Good product!
I received this heat reflector more quickly than expected from this VERY reliable vender. The windscreen is quite light and comes complete with a plastic sheath/holder that closes with a drawstring. I used this with a small alcohol stove 2 weeks ago with my grandson and it increased the effectiveness of the stove X3, at least. Great product!

The Almigthy Windscreen
Yesterday (3-27-2012) I went for an 8 hour day camp. The Duogreen Stove Heat Reflector Windscreen was used with a "Batch" Alcohol stove and an Esbit Titanium Stove to boil water. This day had a light breeze blowing through Earthquake Park in Anchorage, Alaska. But even if it was a strong breeze this stove is rock solid steady. It is slightly heavy duty and the included plastic case is a very smart way to keep the windscreen safe while in your pack. The size is large and extra long. You can fold the walls easily back to make the windscreen more efficient as a reflector for smaller pots/cups.This is probably not for ultralight folks but for everyone else it is perfect.

A must for anyone who likes to camp.
After a lot of research, I bought this book. From first glance, I knew I had the right book. Recipes run the gamut from simple and tasty Maccaroni and Cheese to more complex Sweet and Sour Chicken. The book contains recipes for breakfast, breads, soups, main & side dishes, fish & game, international, beverages, and desserts & snacks. One chapter covers equipment and camp cooking techniques. At just over 200 pages, it's chocked full of great camp cooking ideas. Many of the recipes call for dried foods, some of which may be hard to find in smaller towns. However, there is a chapter that explains the basics of home food drying. This is a great resource for anyone who enjoys camping. Whether you camp in a backwoods primitive camp or a more modern setting, you're certain to find plenty to enjoy from this cookbook!

If I could only have one book on camp cooking, this is it
I read many reviews and purchased a couple of books on camp cooking, and if I were only allowed to have one, this is it. When looking for books on camp cooking, one must align their type of camping with that addressed by the book. This book is subtitled CAMP COOKING FOR CANOEISTS, HIKERS AND ANGLERS. The rather varying needs of these types of people are well addressed. The canoeist, or someone camping by car, will carry more pots and pans than the hiker, but with over 150 recipes, all can find something. My wife and I currently only camp by car, but hope to start camping by kayak, and this book was right down our alley. The recipes are good and are rather "normal" foods like you'd have at home. (Some camping books promote some pretty strange things.) The emphasis is on preparation at home, using ingredients that are light, easily packed and travel well. Most of the recipes require a little more preparation time and are more sophisticated than what...

A great surprise!
I bought this item almost as a joke because it was so cheep and so lightweight that I thought it would be junk. I figured that even if it was useless I wouldn't feel bad about throwing it out because of the price. What I found was that this little set actually works very well. I was impressed with the weight and it cooks a great steak and cleans easily. It packs up pretty small too.My only two concerns with this product was that1. Because the frying pan is two pieces and aluminum the handle tends to bend with too much weight. Long term I think bending will greatly weaken the handle.2. The handle of the frying pan can get a little hot if left on the heat for more than a few minutes. Still easily handled with a towel or shirt sleeve. These are the prices you pay for the very light weight and cheep price. All in all though, a great bargain that really works.

Have owned one for 30 years
I have to laugh at some of these reviews. I have owned one of these since I started in boy scouts 30 years ago and I take it backpacking and camping several times a year to this day. It bends, it dings, but it also bends back. It's still here and that's more than anyone can say of their plastic kit. It weighs next to nothing. It's not non-stick, but so what. I can take gravel/sand, scrub it around with my hand, rinse it with water and it's good. I have yet to see a light weight non-stick pan that doesn't get scratched and flaked in two years. It cooks on a camp stove just fine. I have not used it on a fire that I recall, so I can't speak to that use. I have a feeling people try it on a fire that's way hotter than it needs to be. You only need some mild coals to do any kind of pan cooking. I still get a kick out of seeing the initials I scratched into it when I was 10, and I still have the original butterfly nut too. The plastic cup that came with mine is only useful for...

Aluminum Mess Kit
I wanted a very light, easy to carry frying pan. Anything that came with it was extra. This unit fit that bill. All 4 pieces weigh less than half a pound, but feel quite sturdy. NOT non-stick, but I didn't expect that. Just fry the bacon first! ;-)

BG Canteen
Awesome canteen and cup great for light weight camping price is a little higher than a military canteen and cup but they don't look as cool as this setthe case is adequate but i think should have come with a shoulder strap as well

Great camping/survival canteen
When I first ordered this canteen, my first thought was it is nothing more that a re-styled military canteen for kids. Well, I was wrong. This new canteen, introduced by Bear Grylls, is one of the best canteens I have ever owned. It is constructed of a tough plastic and holds more water than the standard military canteen. It easily goes in and out of it's nylon pouch, which is made of a quick drying material and is easy to carry on your belt. The canteen cup is colored orange, which I suspect is to make it easier to see in the jungle or woods and to be used as a signal device, in a survival situation. All in all this is a well thought out product and I highly recommend it to not only campers but for kids who are into scouting.

Product Description

Inspired by the classic military canteen and nesting cup, Bear Grylls and Gerber have updated the design with a BPA free water bottle, snug fitting nylon sheath and leak proof lock top. The two-handled cup is aluminum, suitable for boiling water. The outside of the canteen is textured to avoid spills or drops, even when you're wearing gloves or exposed to extreme conditions. For survival in the wild, a water bottle simply won't cut it. Top to learn more

good, but no improvement over the original.
Exciting as a "go anywhere, do anything" minimalist cook set is, in practice it's more cumbersome than a traditional backpacking cook set. Also, it gains very little except aesthetics over the milspec version. Now, I know it's supposed be a minimalist piece of kit, but you could save weight and maybe even headaches with a platypus bottle and GSI Minimalist cook set. The GSI can be used in conjunction with a folding stove as well; for times when a fire isn't an option. The canteen's shape makes it harder to use on an open fire than one might think, and the handles are coated with a rubber that melts if it gets too hot, like in a fire.Military canteens have a propensity to taste nasty after a few dozen uses, and are hard to clean due to their shape. This is true of the canteen as well, but it for some reason came tasting of chemicals and new plastic. The cup too, it smelt so metallic when I first purchased it that I was at loath to use it. A few washes later...

I had to learn what my buttons are: the eat button, the anger button, the stress button, the exercise and get fit button…. I rejected out of hand the popular diets and decided I needed to go my own course and that the course could and SHOULD change just as the route you take to work will change if a better route opens or traffic blocks the tried and true…. I wonder if PB is up for a hike… I will have to pop him a note and ask… It will have to be in the afternoon, I have family visiting late Saturday and in to Sunday morning and I really want to see them and spend some time with them… If not a hike... One of the benefits of radically changing your life is the discoveries one makes while finding new paths. Like the fitness and weight loss parts of this Journey, this part will never be completed, never finished. Life is getting in the way and it is scaring me. Yesterday I got home early but had to take care of things at the house and all my walking involved taking the dog out. So no walking tonight because I just finished cooking dinner which we had delayed for the conference call…. I had to learn to push the good buttons for myself and to block the bad ones so others could not push them. Squash I had never heard of, mushrooms galore, greens with odd names… And many ways to cook. All of this is making it difficult to get my walking in and I am not liking it one bit. The very fact that life is getting in the way so easily is making me nervous, scared, concerned, frightened,. I have always enjoyed vegetables but I pretty much was stuck in the AMERICAN CUISINE model: String beans, peas, carrots, zucchini and eggplant, potato, with the occasional spinach thrown in. Salads of course… Why do Americans boil their veggies... No one can stress you without your tacit approval for them to do so. Those that have known me for years can attest to this being perhaps the hardest lesson I have ever learned. I had to change the way I worked.
